I have seen a disturbing trend as of late. In public restrooms throughout Iowa, I have noticed people doing their business in the stalls with their coats lying on the floor in front of them! HELLO!!!! You are putting your coat on a tile floor that probably has dried pee and snot on it (and sometimes fresh pee and snot). Add to that the slush brought in on the bottom of shoes and the floors always seem wet and dirty, unless you are the first one in there - then you could plop your coat down I guess.
Maybe these toilet stalls do not have the little hook to hang your jacket on. Maybe it is broken. Whatever the case may be, you should never ever put your jacket, or anything else for that matter, on the floor of a public toilet. Hold it in your lap, put it up over the divider, etc. BUT NOT ON THE FLOOR! SICK, SICK, SICK!!! I feel like puking just thinking about it!
Is there a public place that is more disgusting than the public restroom? Granted, there are a few good ones around, but for the most part they are sick and disgusting and full of germs and other unsanitary things that are just waiting to attack you! Take a good look at the floor the next time you go in a restroom at a mall or Best Buy or Gas station. It is disgusting. Scan the floor right to left, left to right for wet spots, brown spots, weird spots–just…spots! Most of the time, you will find at least two of the three types of spots.
Seriously - What kind of dirty, filthy person puts their coat on the floor just inches from a public toilet? I hope you, my good reader, do not do this! If you are one of the people who do this, please do not take offense. I am here to help you. If you don't want help, if you are thinking "What an ass! Matt doesn’t realize that the majority of people throw their coat on public restroom floors," then please stop reading because I do not want you to feel offended. That is not what I want to do. And by the way, IT IS NOT A COMMON PRACTICE!
When I see a coat on the bathroom floor, I picture the owner of said coat as a dirty unshaven man, wearing wrinkled pants and an old torn T-Shirt that hasn't been washed for days. Then I look at myself in the mirror and realize it could be me (I am not dirty and I wash my clothes, but sometimes I go out with stubble on my face and I am not the best at ironing clothes.) Then, I had to rethink this Dirty-floor-coat-man. I picture the guy as an EXTREMELY dirty man with pee-stained clothes and that is why he doesn't care about having his coat on the floor. He already smells like pee, so what is a little more on his jacket. I guess if that was the case, then it would be acceptable.
I always am curious if there is a hook in the stall. Sometimes, I have gone back in there to check. Amazingly, I find that about half the time, THERE IS A HOOK! I call it the "Keep your jacket from touching the pee and poop Hook." I always use the hook. My question is: If there is a hook in the stall, WHY WOULD YOU NOT USE IT? Come on guys, give the hook some Love!!!.
OK, Enough of my rant. Just remember people, USE THE HOOK!!!
